KGMMA has had a longstanding interest in diabetes and metabolism. He has worked extensively in Tanzania and Mauritius. He has particular interests in the metabolic syndrome and also diagnostic tests for diabetes & has participated in several WHO Expert Committees and working groups relating to diabetes. He cochaired the IDF Consensus Working group on bariatric surgery. He has published more than 1100 papers and chapters.
