Professor Algazgooz is a consultant bariatric and laparo-endoscopic surgeon and Medical Director of Sader Teaching Hospital in Basra, Iraq.

He graduated from the University of Basra College of Medicine in 1998 with Honours and did postgraduate training and as specialisation in General Surgery through the Iraqi Council of Surgery and the Arabic Council of General Surgery in 2009. He then did his Fellowship from the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Glasgow in 2010. He then undertook courses in bariatric surgery in Strasbourg, France, in the USA (ASMBS Member), India and Egypt.
